Ibuprofen for dental pain
Ibuprofen is widely used to treat dental pain and is effective in relieving mild to moderate pain associated with dental surgery. Clinical trials in adults undergoing surgical extraction of impacted teeth have demonstrated that doses as low as 100 or 200 mg relieve pain but a dose of 400 mg provides greatest and longest lasting pain relief. At this dose, ibuprofen is superior to paracetamol 1000 mg and comparable with aspirin 650 mg in providing analgesia, with a duration of action of at least 4 - 6 hours. In these studies, ibuprofen was well tolerated, with a frequency of adverse effects similar to that with placebo.
