Summary of clinical trial of ibuprofen in the treatment of muscular pain and soft tissue injury
This is a selection of clinical trials representative of the published work for this indication.
Study design
Ibuprofen (400 mg three times daily) and indomethacin (25 mg three times daily) were compared in 47 patients with a range of painful soft tissue injuries. The duration of treatment was 2 weeks. Assessments were made at the end of weeks one and two.
This study was:
randomised
double-blind
Summary of results
Both drugs reduced pain and tenderness after one and two weeks, as determined by both the patients and the investigators. Improvements were consistently greater with ibuprofen but the differences were not statistically significant. The commonest adverse effects were gastrointestinal complaints. Ibuprofen was better tolerated than indomethacin.
