Ibuprofen for sore throat
Acute sore throat is often a minor but very uncomfortable condition that can affect adults and children. It causes pain, and difficulty with swallowing. It may be associated with minor self-limiting conditions such as the common cold or acute upper respiratory infections such as tonsillitis or pharyngitis. In most cases the symptoms can be treated with simple OTC treatment such as ibuprofen and throat lozenges.

In adults with marked symptoms, ibuprofen is more effective than paracetamol in reducing the pain and swelling of sore throat and lessening the difficulty in swallowing. Ibuprofen's duration of action is at least 6 hours. In children, ibuprofen and paracetamol are equally effective, with an onset of action of 30 minutes and a duration of action of at least 6 hours.
