In Europe, ibuprofen can be obtained over the counter in the following dose forms (all forms may not be available in every country): • film-coated tablets or caplets (capsule-shaped tablets) • sugar-coated tablets • liquid capsules • gels for topical application • orodispersible tablets (melt in the mouth) • oral suspensions • effervescent tablets or granules • suppositories Ibuprofen is usually formulated as the parent compound but it can also be obtained as the lysine salt, which is more rapidly absorbed than other solid dose forms of ibuprofen. Detailed information on the role of these different dose forms in the treatment of pain and fever is available from your pharmacist. | |||||||||||||||||||||
